1 BOX OF 2" FINISHING NAILS
First, you have to measure your door opening with molding (unless you do not have molding). This will add 2-3" on the amount of wood you will need. We were covering the molding our door. We were building a door 36 X 70. Once you have that done the rest is just buying and prep work.
I ordered the barn door rail kit from amazon. It comes with in a couple of days. We ordered a 6' rail with lock and handle. These kits come with everything you need to hang the door. When ordering your kit make sure the weight and width of door will fit your kit. Ours was under 170lb and was
The wood was pre-stain from Home Depot it is by the shiplap wood. We us 12pcs of 1 X 4 X 8 grey stain. We had home depot cut all our wood.
10 - 1x4x7
1pc made 2- 1x4x3
The last piece we cut at home to make sure we got the angle correct.
We glued each slat together with wood glue (every board should be glued). We laid the 36" board 12" from the top and another 12" from the bottom both were nailed into place. Make sure you put a nail in every board it touch (all 10 board).
We then lined up the cross board and mark it for the correct angle. This is were you will need to use your saw and mitre box.
We then drilled holes for bolts. This is were you can get creative with you designs. We just did top and bottom so each board had a bolt in it. 10 bolts for each board = 30 bolts needed
See picture below for how we placed ours.
These are the bolts we used. I found these in Lowes down the door handles/locks.
This part were you are adding the rollers and railing PLEASE follow the railing kit directions!!!! They are all different..
We added a hook lock and handle on the inside of this door since it will be a bathroom door..
